Investigation Log – V. Grant, Day 1

A fire rarely tells the truth at first glance, but people are far less subtle and tend to leave patterns behind.

Today I spoke with Lukas Weber, owner of the small B&B at the edge of the village. A calm, steady man. Recently reunited with his son, now running the place together. There was a sincerity in him that did not feel rehearsed, and nothing in his manner suggested guilt.

And yet, the village tells a different story.

Rumors already point to Weber’s establishment as the origin of the fire, despite initial reports clearly indicating Mont Royal. A shift like that does not happen without reason. A grand resort has far more to lose than a modest B&B, and far more incentive to redirect attention.

Which raises a question.

Was it only the fire that spread… or the story as well?
